The Chinese Orchestra Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) offers students the chance to explore and excel in the vibrant world of Chinese orchestral music

Through this program, students not only enhance their musical abilities but also help preserve and celebrate the distinctive sounds of traditional Chinese instruments, deepening their cultural appreciation.
Objectives
Cultural Appreciation: To immerse students in the rich heritage of Chinese music and its historical significance.
Musical Skill Development: To develop students’ proficiency in playing traditional Chinese instruments and understanding orchestral arrangements.

Curriculum and Activities
Instrument Training: Students receive instruction in a variety of traditional Chinese instruments, including the Erhu (two-stringed fiddle), Pipa (lute), Dizi (bamboo flute), Gu Zheng (zither), and Yangqin (hammered dulcimer). Instruction focuses on technique, repertoire, and the role of each instrument within the orchestra.
Combined Practice: Regular orchestral practices are conducted to help students practice ensemble playing, synchronize with other musicians, and perform as a cohesive unit. These combined practices build skills in listening, timing, and collaboration.
Repertoire: The orchestra performs a diverse repertoire that includes classical Chinese compositions, folk melodies, and contemporary pieces arranged for Chinese orchestra. This variety ensures students gain exposure to different musical styles and traditions.
